New ‘Rush’ Trailer Dramatizes Intense Real-Life, Near-Fatal F1 Racing Rivalry (Video)

Ron Howard's Formula 1 racing drama, written by Peter Morgan, speeds into theaters this fall

While two previous trailers for Ron Howard's "Rush" focused on the accident that scarred three-time Formula 1 World Champion Niki Lauda for life, the third focuses on his intense rivalry with English driver James Hunt that led up to the nearly fatal crash.

The upcoming drama, which stars Chris Hemsworth as Hunt and Daniel Brühl as Lauda, suggests the rivalry was a major factor in Lauda's race-car wreck that left major burns across his entire body. Weeks later, however, it also inspired Lauda to make a remarkable return to the sport in top form.

"Watching you win those races, you were equally responsible for getting me back in the car," Brühl says in the trailer.

Universal is releasing "Rush" in theaters on Sept. 27.
