Here’s What Sadie Sink Told Us About That ‘Stranger Things 2’ Kiss

The 15-year-old’s kiss with Caleb McLaughlin sounded alarms

Lots of people are upset about 15-year-old Sadie Sink’s kiss with “Stranger Things 2” co-star Caleb McLaughlin in the season finale, but she says it wasn’t that big of a deal.

“Stranger Things” fans became fiercely protective of the young actress after the Netflix show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, joked in the aftershow “Beyond Stranger Things” that they made her kiss McLaughlin because she seemed so uncomfortable with the idea. McLaughlin just turned 16.

Sink told TheWrap she “never objected” to the kiss — which she said was the first kiss for both her and McLaughlin.

“I mean, of course I was nervous because it’s a first kiss, right?” Sink said. “But I never objected to [it] or felt pushed into anything.”

Sink said the kiss was important to the characters and how the episode ended.

“I always felt comfortable and the Duffer Brothers, they do the best job,” Sink added. “And always create a comfortable space. And if I felt uncomfortable with anything, I wouldn’t have done it.”

Just to make sure, TheWrap asked if anyone had prepped her on what to say about the kiss. At that point, an uncomfortable pause ensued, Sink’s publicist said she believed she had answered the question fully, and everyone moved on to talking about skateboarding.

Sink also told TheWrap she was “really comfortable” with McLaughlin even before joining the cast of “Stranger Things 2,” as both actors knew each other from living in New York City.

During the episode of “Beyond Stranger Things” that’s sparked the kissing concerns, Sink said she felt “stressed out” by the kiss, which was shot in a room full of cast and crew for a school dance scene in the season finale.

Show creators Matt and Ross Duffer were present for the segment, along with McLaughlin. They said the kiss wasn’t in the script, but when the idea came up, Ross said Sink’s reaction to the idea was “so strong” and she was “so freaked” that the Duffers insisted on it.

Fans who objected were particularly angry that Ross said the kiss was Sink’s “fault” because of her reaction.
