Sam Smith Mourns the Loss of a Husband in ‘Lay Me Down’ Music Video

The openly gay singer is nominated for six Grammys this year

Sam Smith, the first artist to sell a million albums in both the United Kingdom and the United States last year, has released another single full of love and sadness.

Romantic ballad “Lay Me Down” premiered on Thursday, just a day after Smith tied Iggy Azalea for the most iHeartRadio Music Awards nominations, with five each. The music video shows Smith mourning the loss of a husband, while remembering their joyous wedding day.

Smith, who was the breakout new artist of 2014 thanks to single “Stay With Me,” is probably more psyched about the six Grammy awards he’s up for during the biggest night in music on Sunday.

His debut album, “The Lonely Hour,” is nominated for Album of the Year, “Stay with Me” is nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, while he’s also nominated for Best New Artist.
