Clearly, someone got really high and wrote “Sausage Party,” which makes sense since it comes from the minds of the “Pineapple Express” gang.
The upcoming animated movie dropped its red band trailer online on Monday, when the language and violent content proved this is no kids’ flick.
The film follows food, centered around a main grocery-store sausage (Seth Rogen) and bun No. 1 (Kristen Wiig). They’ve been purchased together, and chosen to “go home” to the same family. What they and the rest of the shopping cart don’t know is they’re about to be peeled, cooked and eaten.
That’s when the happy comedy turns dark — so very dark. The resulting imagery in the kitchen ends up looking like a war zone, especially when a packet of flour smashes onto the floor.
“Sausage Party” also stars Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, James Franco, Danny McBride, Paul Rudd, Craig Robinson, Nick Kroll, Edward Norton and Salma Hayek.
Watch the trailer above — just not around your children (or food).
“Sausage Party” flies off the shelves on Aug. 12.
