Sean Malone, ‘Gone Baby Gone’ and ‘The Fighter’ Actor, Dead at 54 After Drowning Accident

The actor had been in a coma since July 20 after swimming too far out at a South Boston beach

Sean Malone, known for his roles in “Gone Baby Gone” and “The Fighter,” has died due to a drowning accident, the Boston Fire Department confirms. He was 54.

Malone had been in a coma since July 20, after firefighters raced to rescue the actor, who had swam out too far at a South Boston beach and had proceeded to alarm an off-duty firefighter, Chris Flaherty.

By the time Flaherty got to Malone, he was already under the water. The firefighter brought Malone to the shore before the actor was taken to a nearby hospital.

He had been in critical condition until he passed away Wednesday.

Malone played Skinny Ray Likanski in Ben Affleck’s 2007 directorial debut “Gone Baby Gone,” then appeared opposite Mark Wahlberg in “The Fighter.”

His latest project was “The Forger,” a 2014 movie about an art heist, alongside John Travolta.
