Selena Gomez Delivers Emotional AMA Performance With ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants’ (Video)

Debuting her new single, the former Disney star navigates some rough romantic waters

Selena Gomez showcased a heavy new track on Sunday’s American Music Awards, looking visibly emotional and tearing up.

Under a single spotlight, backed by graphics of turbulent seas and falling rain, Gomez performed “The Heart Wants What It Wants.”

Considerably dressed down from her normal, sparkly-pop fare, Gomez gave fans something serious to chew on.

That, and a possible Justin Bieber reference.

During a lyrical breakdown, Gomez sang “I thought you were the one” in a long run, while behind her a silhouette that looks convincingly like her on-and-off-again flame Bieber.
