Shaquille O’Neal said hew was heartbroken over the sudden death on Sunday of his friend and Los Angeles Lakers teammate Kobe Bryant, whom he called “my brother.”

“There are no words to express the pain I’m going through now with this tragic and sad moment of loosing my neice Gigi & my friend, my brother, my partner in winning championships, my dude and my homie,” Shaw posted on Instagram Sunday. “I love you and you will be missed. My condolences goes out to the Bryant family and the families of the other passengers on board. IM SICK RIGHT NOW !

Bryant, a five-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, was killed Sunday morning along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, Calif., just hours before several NBA games were set to tip off.

Bryant and O’Neal’s competitive spirit evolved into a one-time, well-documented feud, with both superstars sharing the court on the same team. But the conflict, Bryant told “TNT Players Only,” began during the 1998-1999 season during the NBA’s player-lockout, when they were playing on opposing teams.

“You kept saying ‘Yeah, take that little bitch. Take that little bitch,’ ” Bryant said to O’Neal in the face-to-face “Players Only” video. “I’m looking around, ‘Oh, he’s f—ing talking to me.’ Right? I said ‘Well hold on, ain’t going to be too many more of those ‘little bitches.’ And what’d you say? ‘Well whatchu gonna do about it? Whatchu gonna do about it?’ The next thing I knew I saw a big hand coming this way, and I remember going this way [opposite direction].”

Although a beef between them got dicier through the years, according to many reports, Bryant squashed that idea, tweeting on Aug. 28, 2019, “There is no beef with @SHAQ I know most media want to see it but it ain’t gonna happen. Ain’t nothin but love there and we too old to beef anyway #3peat.”
