A New York man who resembles Shia LaBeouf was beaten severely because of his resemblance to the actor over the weekend.

Mario Licato was sent tumbling down a staircase after an unknown assailant struck him in the face while he was headed into the subway, according to an account Licato gave Gothamist.

“I didn’t even see the guy,” he said. “I just see his fist coming towards me. It knocked me, and while I was falling down the stairs, all I hear was, ‘This is because you look exactly like Shia LaBeouf!’”

On Monday Licato posted an image of his battered face on Instagram, revealing injuries so acute, he said he was rendered temporarily unconscious after the blow and bled profusely from his face.

When he came to, a nearby couple nearby confirmed that the assailant did, indeed, make the LaBeouf reference.

And, yes, Licato knows he looks like the “Transformers” star. “I’ve been stopped on the street before, at least 10 times in my life,” he noted of his likeness to LaBeouf.

Licato’s attacker is still at large, described as being in his mid-20s, over six feet tall, and muscular, “like a frat boy.”
