Comedian and actor Sinbad has been cast on Fox’s Lil Rel pilot, “Rel.” He’ll play Rel and Nat’s dad, who seems to care more about his reputation in the community than he does about the happiness of his sons, per the character’s description.
The 20th Century Fox Television multi-camera comedy hails from Jerrod Carmichael and showrunner Mike Scully. Lil Rel will write, executive produce and star on the potential series. Kevin Barnett and Josh Rabinowitz are the other writer/EPs.
Here is the pilot’s official logline:
Lil Rel, a prideful, self-made success who lives by the code to “always believe in yourself and great things will come,” finds that attitude put to the test when he learns his wife is having an affair with his own barber. He tries to rebuild his life post-divorce as a long-distance single father on the South Side of Chicago who’s on a quest for love, respect and a new barber.
The project is inspired by Lil Rel Howery’s (“Insecure”) real life.
Sinbad is repped by CAA and attorney Henry Root at Lapidus, Root & Sacharow, LLP.
