Sony Closes Deal for Roland Emmerich ‘Singularity’

Studio plans to release the disaster master’s latest film May 17, 2013

Roland Emmerich and Sony are doing yet more business together.

The studio has closed a deal for the "2012" director's sci-fi film "Singularity," Sony announced Wednesday. The movie will be released May 17, 2013.

Neither Emmerich's camp or Sony have released any information about this upcoming project.

But the filmmaker and the studio go way back — all the way back to 1992, when Emmerich directed the Jean-Claude Van Damme/Dolph Lundgren sci-fi-action film "Universal Soldier" for Columbia Pictures.

Sony is also releasing Emmerich's Shakespeare-based period thriller "Anonymous," which is due out Oct. 28.

The film stars Jamie Campbell Bower, Xavier Samuel, Rhys Ifans and Vanessa Redgrave.
