Sony Pictures Entertainment and the film and television production company Escape Artists have extended their non-exclusive first-look deal for three more years, the companies announced Tuesday.
Escape Artists has been at the studio since 1998.
The company's Sony movies include "The Pursuit of Happyness," "Seven Pounds" and "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3." It is now working with Mandate Pictures and Management 360 to produce "Great Hope Springs," a Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones, Steve Carell movie that Sony will distribute with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures next December.
Escape Artists' other projects in development at Sony include "Sex Tape," starring Jason Segel, "Masters of the Universe," based on a Mattel toy line, "How to Disappear Completely," based on the Swedish movie "Vitus" and an adaptation of the 1980s television series "The Equalizer," being developed with Denzel Washington in mind to star.
Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch (above) merged their companies to form Escape Artists just over a decade ago.
The company's first produced movie was the 2001 "A Knight's Tale," starring Heath Ledger.
