The clip will air on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” during halftime of the National Football League game between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles in Philadelphia. The game starts at 5:15 p.m. PDT/8:15 p.m. EDT on the cable network, which is owned by Disney.
To commence the countdown for the trailer’s launch, Lucasfilm on Sunday released the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” poster worldwide (above). It immediately became a trending topic on Twitter and got rave reviews from fans.
The first live-action entry in George Lucas‘ iconic sci-fi film franchise in more than a decade will debut in the United States and globally on Wednesday, Dec. 18. “The Force Awakens” is expected to be a global blockbuster, and first-day ticket sales could break records.
The story is set approximately 30 years after the events of 1983’s “Return of the Jedi.”
“The Force Awakens” will be the first film in the planned “Star Wars trilogy” announced after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm in October 2012.
Fandango’s top-selling first day of presales took place on Feb. 22, 2012, when “The Hunger Games” advance tickets went on sale. That broke the record set by “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” on May 14, 2010.
