‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Trailer Makes Matthew McConaughey Cry in ‘Interstellar’ Parody (Video)

The “Star Wars” sequel hits theaters on Dec. 18 — let’s hope the actor watches it in theaters with a GoPro pointed at his face

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has been welcomed by fans with open arms after a second teaser trailer debuted on Thursday, but no one was more touched by it than Matthew McConaughey.

A clever parody that takes advantage of the actor’s most emotional scene in “Interstellar” presents him bawling his eyes out, as if he’s overcome with joy, while “watching” the new trailer for the Dec. 18 release directed by J.J. Abrams.

In the reality of the scene from the 2014 science fiction film directed by Christopher Nolan, McConaughey’s character, Cooper, is actually watching decades-old transmissions from his children while traveling through space in an effort to discover a new habitable home for humanity.

But it’s not unreasonable to think that an astronaut would have the same reaction to an awesome new “Star Wars” trailer if he or she had been lost in space for over 20 years.

The excitement of discovering that humanity had finally made a new “Star Wars” movie that lives up to the original trilogy would immediately be followed by intense sorrow upon the astronaut’s realization that he or she will probably never, ever get to see the full movie.
