Stephen Colbert Grills James Comey at Mock Hearing (Video)

Comedian uses wacky tactics to get at the truth

Stephen Colbert wasn’t invited to grill James Comey during the former FBI director’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday.

Of course that didn’t stop the comedian from planting himself there during a “Late Show” segment following the hearing.

“Mr. Chairman, can I jump in here?” Colbert asked in the skit. “Stephen Colbert. I’d like to thank my colleagues for allowing me to be in here, and I do call you my colleagues even though I’m not a senator,” he began.

The host then proceeded to ask Comey if there was any evidence to support claims that President Donald Trump “colluded with Russia.”

Comey declined to answer his questions in an “open setting,” forcing Colbert to press much harder.

“What if we made a pillow fort? Would you tell me in there?”

Colbert tried another way to get to the answer: “Let’s say you had an orange cat, really fat and lies a lot, would the cat enjoy drinking vodka?”

As a last resort, Colbert went so far as to ask Comey to wordlessly communicate with him using a signal.
