Following President Donald Trump’s continued clash with the NFL over whether players have the right to kneel during the national anthem, late-night host Stephen Colbert continued to make fun of him, getting his audience to loudly boo POTUS.
This time, Colbert’s bit involved Trump’s comments in the Rose Garden on Tuesday, in which he denied he was fixated on the issue.
“I wasn’t preoccupied with the NFL,” Trump told reporters.””Was I preoccupied? Not at all. Not at all. I have plenty of time on my hands. All I do is work.”
“Wait. Which is it?” Colbert asked, confused about the President’s statement. “Do you have a lot of time on your hands? Or, are are you always working? Because I can’t decide which one scares me more.”
Trump continued his anti-NFL tirade, tweeting after Monday Night Football — in which the Dallas Cowboys knelt during the national anthem — that the booing “was loudest I have ever heard. Great anger.”
But Colbert wanted to prove that was “fake news” by getting the audience to boo.
“Listen to this: ‘Donald Trump is President’,” he said.
A long, loud boo emits from the audience, causing Colbert to laugh.
“Thank you! I think I have my new ringtone,” Colbert joked.
He then premiered a new commercial for a new bar and grill where people can watch the NFL. And they had better make sure they don’t sit down.
