Steve Carell and Sam Rockwell play two very different kind of jerks in the Sundance comedy hit "The Way, Way Back."
The coming-of-age film directed by Academy Award-winning screenwriters Jim Rash and Nat Faxon ("The Descendants") follows Duncan (Liam Jones), an introverted teenager who is stuck spending the summer with his mom (Toni Collette) at a beach house with her pompous boyfriend (Carell).

Things get off to a rough start when Carell attempts to bond with Duncan by calling him "a three" on the shallow one-to-ten looks scale. To make matters worse, Carell forces the poor kid to wear a bulky life preserver on a boat trip, while his girl-next-door crush AnnaSophia Robb ("The Carrie Diaries") remains free of the always-embarrassing safety device.
Rockwell offers Duncan a job at Water Wizz water park, where he mentors the young man in the art of picking up chicks. He's still a jerk to the kid, but manages to rag on him like an equal, as opposed to an overbearing adult trying way too hard to be a father figure.
Fox Searchlight is releasing the relatable comedy on July 5.
