StubHub said on Tuesday that it has refunded more than $500,000 worth of tickets to people hit by last weekend’s New York City blackout, which impacted major events including a Jennifer Lopez concert at Madison Square Garden and all Broadway productions.
The company said about 1,500 customers and 27 events were affected by the power outage.
“StubHub has our customers’ backs, and in the rare instances where something goes wrong, every ticket is 100% guaranteed by our FanProtect Guarantee. Saturday’s blackout in New York City was no exception,” StubHub VP Daron Fowlks said in a statement. “As soon as we learned of the events affected, our team kicked into action and alerted customers and provided an update on the situation and processed a full refund for the events that weren’t rescheduled.”
The blackout on Saturday hit more than 400,00 people in Manhattan, paralyzing Rockefeller Center, Times Square, the Upper West Side, subways and Broadway theaters for several hours. Broadway productions including “The Cher Show,” “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “Lion King,” “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” and “Hadestown” were all canceled, while several other shows got a late start.
Nearly all of the 27 StubHub events impacted by the blackout were canceled and not rescheduled. Lopez’s Saturday concert at Madison Square Garden was moved to Monday night, and Chappelle’s solo Broadway act at Lunt-Fontanne Theatre has been bumped to Sunday, July 21.
