Summit to Develop ‘Tempest’

Studio acquires rights for film based on author Julie Cross’ debut novel

Summit Entertainment has bought the rights to develop “Tempest,” the first book in a forthcoming trilogy by first-time author Julie Cross.

The young adult novel follows “a 19-year-old time traveler who witnesses his girlfriend's murder and inadvertently jumps back two years,” according to Cross' blog, diaryofanunpublishedwannabewriter.blogspot.com. “Stuck there, he's recruited by a shadowy government agency run by the man he thought was his father and vows to save his girlfriend no matter the cost."

Summit is developing the script based on Cross’ manuscript, which is slated to be published by the Thomas Dunne Books division of St. Martin's Press. Sonny Mallhi will serve as producer; Roy Lee and Macmillan Films’ Brendan Deneen will serves as executive producers. Summit president Erik Feig, SVP Michael Schaefer and creative executive Sophie Cassidy will oversee the project for the studio.
