TheWrap has partnered with Canvs, the emotion measurement AI company, for a weekly look at some of the characters and personalities that have TV viewers the most worked up on social media. The data below covers Oct. 3-9 and is drawn from the most emotionally reacted-to television programs, including broadcast, cable, streaming and PPV.

A pop superstar, a mixed martial artist and the first female Doctor Who had viewers talking passionately on social media over the past seven days.

The 2018 American Music Awards telecast on ABC was the most emotionally reacted-to program of the period measured, sparking 327,014 Emotional Reactions (ERs). Pop superstar Taylor Swift drove a ton of the emotional conversation during the evening. Between her opening performance, record-breaking four wins and reminder to viewers about the importance of voting, the was no shortage of conversation around her.

The pay-per-view UFC fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor generated 279,443 ERs, with Nurmagomedov as a main driver of viewer emotions — many of them negative. After the Russian mixed martial artist defeated McGregor in the fourth round, he jumped out of the cage and tried to attack McGregor’s team. Chaos ensued, both at the arena and on the internet as outraged fans took to Twitter to protest.

A new season of “Doctor Who” that premiered on BBC America garnered 20,532 (ERs), with actress Jodie Whittaker, who portrays the Thirteenth Doctor of the series (and the first female Doctor), driving a ton of emotion. Overall, viewers were very happy with her performance and many were simply thrilled that it’s finally a woman’s turn to lead the iconic series.
