LOS ANGELES (July 1, 2009) – TheWrap (www.thewrap.com), the premiere news organization covering the business of entertainment and media, hit record highs in site traffic in the month of June.

The site broke stories from deep inside the entertainment business that set Hollywood buzzing, in addition to investigative articles about reality shows that created ripples in the wider world.

Massive reader interest in the sudden death of pop star Michael Jackson further accelerated growth at the end of the month.

The site registered nearly 380,000 unique visitors and 1.8 million page views by June 30, according to data gathered by Google analytics.

By comparison, Comscore’s latest available recorded traffic for The Hollywood Reporter is 266,000 per month. Variety is reported as 546,000 per month. (TheWrap is not yet indexed by Comscore.)

“We are now the fastest-growing, most talked-about news site in the entertainment and media space, and it is extremely exciting to watch this happen,” said Sharon Waxman, site founder and editor. “We feel we have really found our unique voice, which distinguishes us from traditional trade publications on one hand, and salacious celebrity sites on the other.”

“What this month has shown is that we can appeal both to industry insiders, and to a broad, interested readership with fact-based reporting, deep access and hard-hitting analysis,” she added.

Recent breaking news included  an internal memo containing the salaries of William Morris agents, and revelations about the recording of Michael Jackson’s last rehearsal. That has generated extensive television news coverage around reporting provided by TheWrap.

Josef Adalian, former TVWEEK deputy editor is now TV editor for TheWrap. He will bring his voice to TheWrap beginning August 1.

TheWrap is based in Santa Monica, California.
