(Major spoiler alert: Do not read ahead if you have not seen the post-Super Bowl episode of “This Is Us” that aired on Sunday, appropriately named, “Super Bowl Sunday.”)
The man, the myth, the legend, Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia) did in fact die on Sunday’s special post-Super Bowl episode of “This Is Us” — but he didn’t die in that house fire the show has been teasing since the beginning of the season. No, America’s favorite TV dad died after going into cardiac arrest due to smoke inhalation while being checked out at the hospital for burns post-fire.
Fans were not ready for that death and they all dealt with it in different ways, including repeatedly altering the Wikipedia page for “smoke inhalation” in Jack’s honor.
“Can be avoided if you don’t go back in for the dog,” one user had added, referencing the fact the Pearson patriarch returned to the burning home to rescue his daughter’s beloved pooch. “BUT DON’T GO TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE JACK PEARSON WENT!!!!!” another wrote, after the instruction you should seek medical attention. “We love you jack <3. Always remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors,” another fan added.

The next episode of “This Is Us” will air in the show’s regular time slot, on Tuesday at 9/8c on NBC.
