Tony Awards Opening and Closing Numbers: Neil Patrick Harris’ Jay-Z Rap, Mike Tyson Surprise (Videos)

The host leads an incredible opening number, and closes the show with his best Sean Carter impression

The 67th annual Tony Awards opened and closed with a bang. And we’ve got the videos to prove it.

On Sunday night, Neil Patrick Harris continued to prove that there’s nothing he can’t do – including ripping through an incredible opening number and dropping a solid Shia Labeouf joke.

The casts of “Kinky Boots,” “Pippin, “Bring It On,” “Matilda,” and basically every other Broadway show joined NPH for an epic opening number. Even Mike Tyson got involved. Fortunately, no one was knocked out.

Watch the show-stopping performance, which got a well-deserved standing ovation from the Radio City crowd:

How could the closing number possibly follow that? How about NPH doing his best Jay-Z?

The most impressive part of Harris’ and Audra McDonald’s “Empire State of Mind” is it essentially recapped everything that just happened moments ago. Bravo to the lyrics writers and footage editors – get those men and women a special Tony.
