Although President Trump wouldn’t endorse a specific candidate in the French election, he called Macron’s far-right opponent Marine Le Pen the “strongest” of the two. “Whoever is the toughest on radical Islamic terrorism, and whoever is the toughest at the borders, will do well in the election,” Trump has said.
Macron won the presidency in a landslide victory with 65.5 percent of the votes to Le Pen’s 34.5 percent.
