Donald Trump revived a slur he’s used for Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), calling her “Pocahontas” during an early morning Twitter storm on Friday — and the senator had a perfect response of her own.
“Pocahontas just stated that the Democrats, lead by the legendary Crooked Hillary Clinton, rigged the Primaries! Lets go FBI & Justice Dept,” the president tweeted.
Trump is referencing Warren’s answer Thursday to Jake Tapper, who asked her if she believed the Democratic National Committee was “rigged” in favor of Hillary Clinton over Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT). Warren responded “yes.”
Warren went on to call the DNC’s behavior “a real problem,” and said “what we’ve got to do as Democrats now is we’ve got to hold this party accountable.”
But aside from Warren’s comments about her party, and aside from Trump’s call to the FBI and Justice Department in his tweet, people are more angry about Trump’s use of “Pocahontas” as a nickname for Warren.
Actress Patricia Arquette pointed out “Native Americans have repeatedly told you directly they find your use of This name racist,” and said she’s “reporting this tweet.”
“Are you calling someone Pocahontas as if it were a derogatory term?? How do people not see the problem with this from a POTUS????” one Twitter user asked.
“Everyone needs to report you for offensive language. This is ridiculous. I have adult children & I’d punish them now for speaking like this,” another added.
“Aside from the unbelievable racism there, you and your campaign team colluded with a foreign nation to win the election. Pot meet kettle,” tweeted another observer.
But perhaps the best reaction of all was from Warren herself, who said that Trump’s campaign manager, Paul Manafort, was indicted for conspiracy against the United States.
“I understand your desperation to change the subject,@realDonaldTrump,” she tweeted. “Your campaign mgr was just indicted for conspiracy against the US.”

The President *again* referring to Elizabeth Warren, a woman with Native American ancestry as “Pocahontas”? How is this not flat out racism? https://t.co/4FRKCNXzc9
