Tucker Carlson Unloads on Trump Over Immigration: ‘What Was the Point of Running for President?’ (Video)

“That’s not much of a negotiation,” Fox News host says

Tucker Carlson got nasty Tuesday evening, slamming Donald Trump over his nearly hourlong immigration cabinet meeting.

Carlson accused Trump of giving away the farm on immigration and warned that the president was coming dangerously close to blowing the signature issue of his campaign.

“The president held a televised meeting with the very swamp creatures he once denounced. He told them he trusted them to craft immigration policy without his input. Then he suggested he’d be willing to accept any deal they produced, even a bad one,” said Carlson. “So what was the point of running for president?”

Carlson was referring to a moment during the meeting in which Trump told the assembled lawmakers that he would sign any immigration compromise they gave him.

“I’m not going to say ‘oh gee I want this or I want that’ I will be signing it,” said Trump.

“You’ll remember the president also ran on his skills as a negotiator,” Carlson said. “The president signaled he’d be happy to legalize hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants now, and then at some point in the future, tackle all that other stuff, like making sure they can’t bring millions of their relatives from the third world along with them.”

“That’s not much of a negotiation,” Carlson snapped, adding that supporting Trump often required dealing with embarrassing moments like this.

“In the Trump presidency, the world series is this immigration bill. It’s the big payoff. It’s the whole point of the exercise,” he concluded, warning that Team Trump better not screw it up.
