Tupac Musical, ‘Holler If Ya Hear Me,’ Headed to Broadway

The West Coast rapper is posthumously heading back East for a new show based on his music

Tupac openly wondered "If Heaven Got a Ghetto." Now, producers are hoping that Broadway has one, too.

Kenny Leon is currently directing a workshop of "Holler If Ya Hear Me" in New York, according to the Associated Press. Leon helped bring "Fences" and "The Mountaintop" to Broadway.

The show will not set Shakur's catalog to an original story about a present-day Midwestern industrial city. The plot explores the story of two childhood friends "as they struggle to reconcile the challenges and realities of their daily lives with their hopes, dreams and ambitions."

The late rapper has sold more 75 million albums worldwide. He was shot and killed in 1996 on the Las Vegas strip at age 25.

The new musical hopes to be ready for the 2013-2014 Broadway season. No word yet on if Shakur's hologram will makes an appearance.
