‘Twin Peaks’: New Eerie Teaser for Revival Is Pure David Lynch (Video)

The 18-part limited series event debuts on Showtime May 21

David Lynch hasn’t released a film since 2006’s “Inland Empire,” but based on a new teaser for his anticipated Showtime “Twin Peaks” revival, the director has lost none of his eerie, signature touch.

The peek at the 18-part limited series event doesn’t feature returning stars Kyle MacLachlan as FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, Sherilyn Fenn, or new guest stars Laura Dern and Naomi Watts — it simply welcomes you back to foggy logging town in which the show is set.

Backed by an unsettling score, the 30-second promo gives short glimpses of familiar locations to fans: the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Department, the RR Cafe, the Palmer residence, and those frightening mountains.

The exact details of the new “Twin Peaks” have been a closely kept secret. During the Television Critics Association winter press tour in January, Lynch shared: “I see it as a film, and a film in parts is what people will experience. It was a joyful fantastic trip with this great crew and great cast.”

The Lynch-created series originally aired for two seasons on ABC from 1990 to 1991. It was announced in 2015 that the show would be making a comeback.

The series is written and produced by series creators and executive producers Lynch and Mark Frost, and is directed entirely by Lynch.

“Twin Peaks” returns on Showtime Sunday, May 21. The first two-parts of the miniseries will debut at the 70th Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off May 17.
