Tyrese Gibson took to Instagram on Saturday to offer a public apology for his social media meltdown, laying the blame on prescription psychiatric medication.
“FYI contrary to false reports and narrative ! don’t have a mental illness, it was meds that was suggested to deal with the trauma of losing my daughter this way…. everything just changed,” he said on Instagram.
On Nov. 1, Gibson broke down in an emotional Facebook video after losing a custody battle over his 10-year-old daughter Shayla. “Don’t take my baby please, don’t take my baby,” he said through tears. ‘This is all I got, this is all I got, this is all I got. Don’t take my baby, OK?” he pleaded.
Saturday, he explained his behavior in another post:
“I want you guys to know that to this day I don’t drink, smoke or on any level do I do drugs……… because of this high stress and very traumatic experience I was advised then ultimately connected with multiple therapist and psychiatrist I had a few private meetings and this particular drug that was suggested although maybe helpful to others had an adverse effect on me and this is the reason I had a complete meltdown online,” he wrote.
The “Fast & Furious” actor went on to say that the meds are now flushed out of his system and he’s “ready to get back to 100%.”
“This is transparency and honesty and more of a suggestion,” he continued, adding, “please seek professional opinions when it comes to drugs especially psychiatric meds.”
