Uglydoll Goes Hollywood: Illumination Set to Bring Characters to Screen

“Little Fockers” screenwriter Larry Stuckey is writing a movie centered around the funny-looking Uglydoll characters

Illumination Entertainment is looking to transition the Uglydoll collection of toys and books to the big screen, the company announced Thursday.

Illumination, the animation company based at Universa and overseen by Christopher Meledandril, is developing an animated feature film around the characters.

Larry Stuckey, who wrote "Little Fockers," will write the screenplay. Meledandri will produce, and the Uglydoll creators, David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim, will executive produce.

Universal, meanwhile, hopes to expand Uglydoll into a larger franchise.

And it's pretty big: Since the husband-and-wife team of Horvath and Kim created the characters in 2001, their company has sold a wide range of branded products, including dolls, books, calendars, clothing and coffee mugs.
