The Victoria’s Secret Angels showed a more aggressive side in a web-exclusive commercial to promote both Valentine’s Day — a major holiday for the lingerie retailer — and the company’s upcoming Super Bowl ad.
In a departure from most VS fare, the beautiful models spend the vast majority of the commercial in full football gear, including pads and helmets. Glimpses of their faces reveal who’s behind the masks as they square off against one another in a no-holds-barred scrimmage.
While it’s pretty likely the company used female body doubles for the action shots, it still doesn’t take away from the impressive athleticism on display. If ever an argument could be made for women’s football being compelling and exciting to watch, this commercial could be it — even if it was cleverly edited.
The models finally reveal themselves at the end of the video by removing their helmets after a successful afternoon on the field.
It’s unclear if the content is indicative of Victoria’s Secret’s Super Bowl ad — scheduled for after the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter — or just a fun football-related shoot.
