NBC has cast Vincent D’Onofrio to play The Wizard in “Emerald City,” TheWrap has learned.

The 10 episode limited series follows Dorothy Gale (Adria Arjona) and her dog as they are transported to the dark and mysterious land of Oz. The Wizard is the leader of the Emerald City, who exists as a man of science living in a world ruled by magic.

D’Onofrio is primarily known for his work in films such as “Full Metal Jacket” and this summer’s blockbuster “Jurassic World.” He previously appeared on the NBC series “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” from 2001-2011. He also turned in a scene-stealing performance on Netflix’s “Daredevil.”

The series was originally supposed to air in 2014, but creative differences within the network forced it onto the shelf. It is currently scheduled to air in 2016. It is based on L. Frank Baum’s “Wizard of Oz” novels, which have been adapted into numerous formats since their original publication, including the iconic 1939 film starring Judy Garland.

Other stars of the series will include Gerran Howell as Jack, Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Lucas, and Ana Ularu as West. Tarsem Singh will direct the series, with David Schulner and Shaun Cassidy producing.
