Walmart Apologizes After N-Word Is Used on Its Site to Describe Hair Product

“We are very sorry and appalled that this third party seller listed their item with this description on our online marketplace,” retailer tweets

Walmart apologized Monday after using the N-word to describe the color of a product in an online description of a hair product.

A third party vendor described a netting weave cap as “n—-r brown” and a twitter user called the company out after capturing the description before it was deleted.

Walmart apologized and removed the racial slur and replaced the “Add To Cart” button with a message stating that the item was no longer available.

“We are very sorry and appalled that this third party seller listed their item with this description on our online marketplace. It is a clear violation of our policy an has been removed, and we are investigating the seller to determine how this could have happened,” the company tweeted.

Walmart pinned the racial slur on a “third party seller” which coincides with a message on the company website.

“While we aim to provide accurate product information, it is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and others, and has not been verified by us,” a disclaimer provided on the product’s Walmart webpage said.

The company replied to angry Twitter users by responding to messages with, “We agree this is appalling,” and a copy of the official statement.
