The Washington Examiner says they were the victim of a hacking Monday morning, after a tweet was issued from their official account saying their paper was “garbage.”

“The Washington Examiner’s Twitter feed was hacked and a tweet was posted that did not come from our staff,” the paper said in brief statement at the top of their Twitter feed Monday. “We are taking appropriate action and will issue a further statement if necessary.”

A rep for the Examiner did not immediately respond to request for comment from TheWrap.

The original tweet was posted early Monday morning and was broadly disparaging of both Donald Trump and the paper.

“Trump is going to hell,” read the rogue tweet. “Anyone who ever read the bible can tell you where it stands on rich adulterers. The key to God’s forgiveness is repentance. Trump’s entire political career has been about the exact opposite of that.”

“Also this paper is garbage for promoting ‘Trump and God,’” it added.

The tweet was deleted not long after being posted — but not before eagle-eyed internet users could save screenshots for posterity.

The Examiner, a Conservative Washington mainstay, has become known during the Trump era mostly for its raffish political coverage. Articles from the paper routinely proliferate in GOP media circles and are frequently retweeted by President Trump. The Examiner recently poached New York Post Opinion Editor Seth Mandel from the Big Apple tabloid to serve as their new executive editor.
