Watch Donald Trump’s Inaugural Parade (Livestream)

Protests have broken out near the parade route

President Donald Trump’s inaugural parade through Washington, D.C., kicked off on Friday afternoon following his swearing-in despite the prospect of protests near the parade route on Pennsylvania Avenue.

There will be more than 8,000 parade participants representing forty organizations including high school and university marching bands, equestrian corps, first responders, and veterans groups, according to the inaugural committee website.

Baltimore’s WBAL-TV reported that 95 people have been arrested and three police officers have been injured on Friday as some protesters shattered windows and burned trash cans.

While the overwhelming majority are protesting peacefully, a small number of others — some masked and dressed in black — have been caught on video breaking a Starbucks store’s windows and setting small fires.

Some of the protests and clashes are near the parade route that Trump will travel. MSNBC’s Brian Williams dubbed the situation “a tale of two cities.”

Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States of America at noon ET in front of a packed crowd outside of the Capitol in Washington, D.C.

His hand was on two different Bibles, the one given to him by his mother as a child and one that belonged to Abraham Lincoln. Vice President-elect Mike Pence was sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, while Chief Justice John Roberts did the honors for Trump. He was sworn in with his family by his side and promised to “faithfully execute the office of the President of the United States.”

“We are transferring power from Washington D.C. and giving it back to you, the people,” President Trump said to kick off his speech as a light rain began to fall.
