Watch Leonardo DiCaprio’s ‘Huge Inspiration’ For ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ Performance (Video)

The actor studied a viral video featuring a man so intoxicated he can barely stand — but that doesn’t stop him from trying to buy more beer

One of the drunkest drunks ever to go viral on the internet informed Leonardo DiCaprio‘s portrayal of a man who took too many drugs in “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

“A lot of the research that I did really came from watching this one video on loop. It’s called ‘The Drunkest [Guy] in the World,’” DiCaprio said  of the video (above) on Sunday in New York during a press conference for the Martin Scorsese film, as reported by the Huffington Post. “It’s a man trying to get a beer, but his body doesn’t quite [work]. That was a huge inspiration to me.”

DiCaprio, who plays former stock broker Jordan Belfort in the film, was referring to a scene during which he and co-star Jonah Hill had to act out the effects of consuming excessive amounts of a sedative-hypnotic drug called Quaaludes.

The result required DiCaprio to do anything but stand on his own two feet while struggling to make it home during the episode Belfort experienced before his Wall Street empire crumbled. Belfort, who wrote the memoir on which the film is based, was also happy to demonstrate the effect of the drug.

“A lot of it came from me filming Jordan talking to me about what Quaaludes are like,” DiCaprio said. “I had him rolling around on the floor for me. That was very helpful.”

Paramount Pictures is releasing “The Wolf of Wall Street” on Christmas Day.
