‘Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark’ Seeks New Leading Man

The current star of the Broadway show is leaving in September, prompting open auditions

Ever pulled on a mask and dreamed you were Spider-Man? Now you can be — and you don't need superpowers — you just need to be a good singer and actor (and possibly have a high threshold for pain).

The Broadway show "Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark" announced a coast-to-coast search to find its next leading man, who of course plays the dual-role of Spider-Man/Peter Parker.

The show's original and current star, Reeve Carney, is departing the production on Sep. 15. Two open casting calls, one in New York and one in Los Angeles, are being held to find his replacement.

"Hopefuls should be males in their late teens to early twenties of any ethnicity," the call describes. "They must have a great rock singing voice. They can be nerdy with an understated sex appeal and a good sense of humor."

They should also be OK with stitches — several actors and stunt doubles were injured during the show's early goings, including Carney's understudy, who required medical attention for an injury in 2011.

And ladies, do not feel left out. You know, so long as you're beautiful and can belt out a tune: The production will also use these open calls to find a future Mary Jane.

"Hopefuls for that role should be females in their late teens to early twenties of any ethnicity," the production said. "Ideal candidates will be 'beautiful girl next door' types with strong pop/rock singing voices."
