Why Patrick Reed, Cardi B and Snooki Are TV’s Social Media MVPs of the Week

A golf champion, a pregnant rapper and a reality star had viewers talking passionately on social media over the past seven days.

The Wrap has partnered with Canvs, the emotion measurement company, for a weekly look at some of the characters and personalities that have TV viewers the most worked up on social media. The data below covers April 4-10 and is drawn from the most emotionally reacted-to television programs, including broadcast, cable, streaming and PPV.

The final round of the 2018 Masters golf tournament, broadcast on CBS, inspired 65,650 Emotional Reactions (ERs) on Twitter. Naturally, ultimate winner Patrick Reed drove the bulk of conversation. While many of the comments were positive, expressing love and offering congrats, a fair share of viewers made it clear that they weren’t big fans.

Much to fans’ delight, Cardi B’s pregnancy was confirmed during her recent musical performance on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” (58,572 ERs), making her the biggest driver of conversation during the show. The rapper donned a white Christian Siriano gown during her second set and at one point the camera strategically panned down to show off her burgeoning baby bump. Viewers went absolutely nuts, flooding social media with excited congratulatory messages.

MTV’s “Jersey Shore” reboot hit TV screens last week (58,387 ERs) and people were thrilled to have some of their beloved reality stars back in action — especially Snooki (real name: Nicole Polizzi). During the “Jersey Shore Family Vacation” series premiere, the fan-favorite generated a ton of conversation, with people expressing love, laughing at Snooki’s antics and also, of course, throwing some shade her way. (As we’ve noted before, “hate-watching” is one of the great drivers of social media response to TV shows.)
