Will Ferrell & John C. Reilly to Record ‘Step Bros.’ Rap Album?

Director Adam McKay says there could be more music in store from the “Boats ‘N Hoes” duo

Are "Step Brothers" stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly currently working on a rap album as their characters from the movie?

That's what director Adam McKay just tweeted, although he's been known to make a joke or two over the course of his career.

McKay hosted a brief Q+A with himself on Tuesday, writing: "Are we currently working on a Step Bros rap album? Yup." Hours later, he followed up: "I wasn't kidding about Step Bros rap album. And we just found out we have a crazy big time producer. Mos Def, you up for a guest flow?"

In "Step Brothers," Brennan Huff (Ferrell) and Dale Doback (Reilly) start a record label, Prestige Worldwide, and release the single "Boats 'N Hoes" as Huff 'N Doback. The song itself (seen below) has garnered more than 8.5 million hits on YouTube.

While it's unclear what sort of sound the "Step Brothers" will be going for on their full-length LP, McKay retweeted one fan's prediction that it will sound "like a combination of Wu Tang Clan and Jesus."

While TheWrap is waiting for official confirmation of Ferrell and Reilly's involvement in the exciting endeavor, this wouldn't be the first time two movie stars decided to record a rap song in character, as Tom Hanks and Dan Ackroyd infamously recorded "City of Crime" as their characters from "Dragnet."

Of course, Ferrell is no stranger to the microphone, having performed songs in "Old School," "Elf," "Anchorman" and "Stranger Than Fiction" (not to mention his classic "Saturday Night Live" character, music teacher Marty Culp), while Reilly is equally experienced in the recording studio, having sung his own songs in "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story."
