‘Wipeout’ Creator Matt Kunitz Signs Overall Deal With Lionsgate

Reality TV veteran will produce unscripted programming through his Pulse Creative banner

Reality TV producer Matt Kunitz entered into a multi-year overall deal with Lionsgate on Tuesday to produce unscripted programming through his Pulse Creative banner.

The unscripted televsion veteran is best known for creating/executive producing ABC’s “Wipeout” and executive producing NBC’s “Fear Factor.” He also executive produced ABC’s short-lived “101 Ways to Leave a Game Show” in 2011.

“I am excited to be joining a company known for such iconic franchises as ‘The Hunger Games,’ ‘Twilight,’ ‘Mad Men’ and ‘Orange is The New Black,’” Kunitz said. “This new deal allows me the creative freedom to broaden my brand with a goal of bringing Lionsgate more successful franchises as they expand their reach into the unscripted market.”

Kunitz will be working in conjunction with Pulse Creative development executive Rebecca Quinn at Lionsgate.

“Matt is a powerhouse producer who knows what it takes to create reality hits with worldwide appeal,” said Lionsgate Television Group Chairman Kevin Beggs. “Building our brand in this arena continues to be a priority for Lionsgate and we’re delighted to be in business with him.”

In 2012,  Kunitz signed an exclusive multi-year deal with FremantleMedia North America after working with Endemol USA for 12 years.

Lionsgate, best known for “The Hunger Games” franchise, has expanded its involvement in unscripted television in recent years through its partnerships with Roy Bank’s Banca Studio, Eli Frankel’s Rogue Atlas Productions and Dave Caplan’s Trooper Entertainment.

Kunitz is represented by ICM Partners and attorney David Tenzer.
