The WWE was quick to spoof Steve Harvey‘s Miss Universe disaster at their own annual awards show on Monday night.
Just 24 hours after Harvey mistakenly declared Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez the victor instead of Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach, WWE Superstar R-Truth took to the stage to present Diva of the Year at the awards special airing on USA Network.
R-Truth, whose real name is Ron Killings, announced an upset win for Paige, who came out and started her acceptance speech before he confessed to a “miscommunication” and announced the real winner as Nikki Bella.
“You were runner-up, you didn’t win. I’m sorry, I made a mistake,” he told Paige, nearly getting his ass kicked by the angry Diva in the process. “It was an honest mistake,” said the commentator diplomatically.
Needless to say, WWE fans loved the blindsided spoof and quickly took to Twitter in response — with some finding the joke hilarious and others thinking it was unfair for Paige to be the butt of a cheap shot.
No one was laughing at Miss Universe after “Family Feud” host Harvey’s blunder on Sunday, however, when he got the winner and the first runner-up confused. After she had been given the crown and sash, Gutierrez tragically had them taken off her live on stage.
“I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake,” Harvey said on Twitter after the broadcast. “I feel terrible… Secondly, I’d like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well. Again it was an honest mistake.”
Among the other real winners at the WWE Slammy Awards on Monday were “Arrow” actor Stephen Amell winning “Celebrity Moment of the Year” for jumping into the ring with his nemesis Stardust at SummerSlam; Neville as “Breakout Star of the Year;” and Roman Reigns leveling The League of Nations and Triple H for “Extreme Moment of the Year.”

If R-Truth is out there to play Steve Harvey, I sincerely hope the editing truck gets impounded. #RAW#slammy
