Yahoo, Clear Channel Strike Multi-Year Digital Radio Deal

Yahoo's deal with the radio giant makes Clear Channel's iHeart Radio Yahoo's top digital radio service and follows deals with Spotify and CNBC

Yahoo and Clear Channel have agreed to a multi-year cross-platform partnership that makes Clear Channel’s iHeartRadio Yahoo’s premiere digital radio service.

It is both cross-platform and cross-promotional as iHeartRadio, local radio station websites and the Yahoo network will promote both Yahoo and Clear Channel content.

Yahoo will also serve as the exclusive web and mobile destination for a concert series, headlined by the iHeartRadio Music Festival Sept. 21 and 22 in Las Vegas.

Yahoo's recent strategy involves integrating as many high-profile content creators into its portal, amassing as much desirable content as possible. It has been striking partnerships left and right, reaching a deal with Spotify on Tuesday and CNBC last week. This latest pact unites the massive online portal with the nation’s largest radio station owner.

“Clear Channel has accelerated their digital strategy under [CEO] Bob [Pittman’s] leadership,” Ross Levinsohn, interim CEO of Yahoo, said in a statement. “This partnership will expand our ability to provide consumers and advertisers with the best premium content available and provide Clear Channel with unmatched digital reach.”

iHeartRadio boasts more than 45 million monthly unique visitors to its website and more than 80 million downloads of mobile apps. However, Yahoo, which draws 167 million unique visitors across its properties each month, can offer a new kind of scale.

“We were thrilled when Ross approached us about this partnership,” Pittman said in a statement.” “We like the direction Yahoo is going and by working together we can accelerate growth for the both of us.”
