‘You’re the Worst': FX Drops Final Season Trailer, Premiere Date (Video)

Stephen Falk created comedy to end in 2019

FXX has set the premiere date for the fifth and final season of comedy “You’re the Worst,” and released a new trailer for the show’s goodbye run.

“You’re the Worst” will return on Jan. 9 at 10 p.m. on FXX.

The show is a look at love and happiness told through the eyes of two people who haven’t been very successful with either. It’s the story of Gretchen and Jimmy, fear, heartbreak, romance, sex, food, Los Angeles, Sunday Funday, friendship, and the fact that sometimes the worst people make the best partners.

After a whirlwind courtship and a very rough post-cohabitation period of dealing with Gretchen’s clinical depression, they were forced to learn how to manage a relationship in the face of tragedy when Jimmy’s father unexpectedly died. Ultimately drawn closer, Jimmy proposed and then suddenly disappeared when confronted with the notion that Gretchen would be his family. After a prolonged period of separation, they’re in it for the long haul now… at least they think they are. Maybe.

During this summer’s TCA press tour, series creator Stephen Falk spoke about the pressure of ending a critically well-received show and getting the finale just right.

“I guess around the third season everyone starts asking: ‘So how are you going to end, are you going to stick the landing?'” he said. “I hate ‘Breaking Bad’ for doing it so well and making that a thing.”
