‘Zero Theorem’ Trailer: Terry Gilliam Channels ‘Brazil’ (Video)

Futuristic film is a visual knockout and features a bald Christoph Waltz

Terry Gilliam goes back to the future in the new trailer for “The Zero Theorem.”

The upcoming science-fiction thriller is reminiscent of Gilliam’s most enduring work, “Brazil,” with its vaguely dystopian satire and stunning Orwellian imagery. That makes sense as the director has described it as existing as part of a trilogy with “Brazil” and “12 Monkeys.”

The plot is indecipherable, however. It seems to involve a bald Christoph Waltz (“Django Unchained”) trying to find a meaning to life.

Mélanie Thierry stars as his love interest and David Thewlis is also on hand, sporting a very unfortunate hairdo.

“The Zero Theorem” has yet to score a U.S. release date, but debuts in Europe this spring. It has already screened at the Venice Festival, with TheWrap’s Todd Gilchrist writing that it “…dances on the edge of nothingness, and manages to find something incredibly powerful to say.”
