Video of “alt-right” leader and white nationalist Richard Spencer getting punched in the face by a masked man while giving an interview in Washington D.C. has quickly became the center of social media chatter… and for good reason.
Spencer has been called a neo-Nazi by many because he openly espouses a view that America should be a nation for white people, going as far as to lead an alt-right crowd in chants of “Hail Trump! Hail our people!” During his speech at the gathering, Spencer said, “To be white is to be a striver, a crusader, an explorer and a conqueror.”
For those reasons, many have delighted in the video of Spencer getting punched — and punched hard at that. Many took to remixing the video by setting it to music, creating some hilarious results. Here are 18 of the best.
“The Boys Are Back in Town” – Thin Lizzy
One assumes the boys came back to town because they’re not happy about neo-Nazis.
“Born in the USA” – Bruce Springsteen
Others noted that America has a proud history of punching Nazis.
“Boom” is an especially useful lyric here.
“In the Air Tonight” – Phil Collins
Anything with a solid beat works well for remixing a clip of someone getting punched.
“My Heart Will Go On” – Celine Dion
Using the iconic “Titanic” track — along with slow motion — adds emotional gravitas.
“Benny Hill Theme” – Yakety Sax
Punching a white supremacist seems like a solid bit for any comedy.
“Street Fighter II”
This isn’t exactly what a “Tiger Uppercut” looks like in the 1991 video game, but close enough.
“Gangnam Style” – Psy
And you thought you hated this song.
“Wrecking Ball” – Miley Cyrus
Miley captures the spirit the puncher seemed to be going for.
“My President is Black” – Young Jeezy
One assumes white nationalists would be particularly irritated with Jeezy’s contribution.
“Sonic the Hedgehog”
In the “Sonic” video games, when Sonic gets hit, he drops all the rings he’s gathered throughout the level, exactly like in this video.
“X Gon’ Give It To Ya” – DMX
Really needs no explanation.
“Killing in the Name Of” – Rage Against the Machine
It was only a matter of time until someone added an incredibly appropriate Rage song to the proceedings.
“Indiana Jones” Punch and Wilhelm Scream
Much of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” is spent punching Nazis, so adding “Indiana Jones” sound effects is pretty apt.
“Blue Monday” – New Order
Percussion inspires some great punching remixes.
“Angel of Death” – Slayer
The highest energy of the remixes may also be the most ridiculous.
“Der Fuehrer’s Face”
Calling back to a 1943 anti-Nazi Donald Duck cartoon may perfectly illustrate what people find funny about this video.
“Curb Your Enthusiasm” Theme
No internet gag would be complete without it.
