Matt Lauer Says He’s ‘Not a Guy Who Complains’ During ‘Tonight Show’ Appearance (Video)

The "Today Show" anchor tells Jay Leno that he still loves his job, despite all the bad press he has received since Ann Curry was forced out of her co-anchor position last summer

It's no secret that Matt Lauer and the rest of the "Today Show" has been struggling since Ann Curry's dramatic exit last summer, but NBC's morning news personality told Jay Leno during "The Tonight Show" on Thursday that he still loves his job.

"It's been an interesting year, no question about it," Lauer said. "But the fact of the matter is, every day millions of people still invite us into their homes to deliver the news."

"Today," which reigned supreme in the morning news ratings game for more than a decade, began falling behind "Good Morning America" when Curry took over for Meredith Viera, and the show continues to be regularly beaten by ABC's broadcast. Still, Lauer appreciates where he is today.

"I am not a guy who complains. I am the luckiest guy," he added. "I love this job. I really do."

As far as Kathie Lee Gifford's letter of support for Lauer that was signed by all of his "Today" cohorts, with the exception of Curry, Lauer called it a "sweet" gesture.

"My mother always told me in times of adversity, you find out who your friends are," Lauer said. "Kathie Lee's a great friend."
