Howard Kurtz to Address Jason Collins’ Controversy on CNN’s ‘Reliable Sources’

There has been "no status change" for Kurtz at CNN's "Reliable Sources" after his Daily Beast ousting over Jason Collins flap

Howard Kurtz, who parted ways with The Daily Beast on Thursday after erroneous comments in a story about gay NBA player Jason Collins, still has his job as host of CNN's "Reliable Sources" — at least for the time being, the cable news network said Friday.

“There has been no status change with Howard Kurtz, he remains the host of 'Reliable Sources,'" the network told TheWrap in a statement.

CNN added that Kurtz "will address this issue on the program this weekend."

A spokesman for the network told TheWrap on Thursday that CNN is reviewing the situation.

Kurtz has hosted "Reliable Sources," which explores media matters and launched on CNN in 1992, since 1998.

Kurtz parted ways with The Daily Beast, where he served as Washington bureau chief, after Kurtz claimed in a story that Collins, who came out as gay on Monday in a Sports Illustrated op-ed, "didn't come clean" about being engaged to a woman in the past. In fact, Collins had directly referenced the engagement in the column.

Kurtz subsequently amended the story, writing that Collins had "downplayed" the engagement in the story.

The Daily Beast retracted Kurtz's story, noting, "The Daily Beast sincerely regrets Kurtz’s error-and any implication that Collins attempted to hide or obscure the engagement."

After the split, Kurtz tweeted that the parting was "in the works for some time."

"I've enjoyed my time at the Daily Beast but as we began to move in different directions, both sides agreed it was best to part company," Kurtz wrote.
