Baz Luhrmann‘s sumptuous adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic novel is expected to gross around $40 million this weekend, which is welcome news for Warner Bros., given the film's hefty price tag.

Warner Bros. is distributing the film, which it co-produced with long-time partner Village Roadshow.

The film, which is expected to be especially popular among women, has been gathering steam over the past few weeks thanks to an aggressive marketing campaign and buzz around the film’s stars and soundtrack (scored by Jay-Z).
