Adam Levine Thanks America, Ryan Gosling – and Nick Nolte – For Sexiest Man Alive Honor (Video)

Levine recognizes that he wouldn’t have secured the “shallow” title if Gosling hadn’t turned it down

Adam Levine was named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive this week, and appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to give an acceptance speech that both mocked the title’s existence, and honored those Sexiest Men Alive before him.

“A lot of people kind of trivialize this thing,” Levine said on Wednesday while “accepting” the award. “They say it’s shallow, they think it’s just a silly media stunt used to sell magazines, and perpetuate the image of Hollywood being based on looks — and that’s totally true. It is, but I’m completely cool with that.”

“The Voice” coach thanked a long list of people, including his “incredibly sexy” parents, “people of America” for making a great choice and his “boys,” but none were as important as other Hollywood studs People knighted as the “Sexiest” of their time.

Ryan Gosling, thank you for turning this down constantly. That really helped my campaign. Of course my predecessors — George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, George Clooney, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, and George Clooney, of course,” Levine said. “Surprisingly, I’d like to thank Nick Nolte, People’s Sexiest Man Alive 1992, for making me feel like maybe this award wasn’t as out of reach as I might of once thought.”

While one might think that last line was a joke — it’s not. Nolte really was named the Sexiest Man Alive in 1992.
