CNN’s Anderson Cooper appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” to reveal his clever strategy of how to deal with the Trump presidency as a news anchor.
“Don’t tell him… I muted him,” Cooper said of POTUS. “You know when you get annoying people tweeting you, you don’t want to delete them because that tells them you’ve deleted them. So if you just mute them, they think you’re still following them and you don’t actually see their tweets.”
Colbert joked, “The tweets can get backed up and you get an infection.”
The CNN anchor went on to say he doesn’t want the “drama” in his life that comes with Trump’s Twitter and just wants to be calm. Cooper’s comments echo the strategy MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow recently shared with TheWrap.
“We developed sort of an informal, internal mantra… which is that we basically cover them as if they are a silent movie,” Maddow told TheWrap. “I stopped covering the Twitter feed and we started covering only what they do rather than what they say.”
Cooper’s been making the late night rounds of late. Last month, he appeared on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and the topic of Trump came up. “He watches me on CNN more than my mom watches me on CNN,” the journalist joked.
