Bill Bellamy has been cast in the lead role of the untitled Chris Case comedy pilot currently in the works at Fox, TheWrap has learned.

Bellamy will play Jay “Havoc” Hammond, a tough ex-NFL player who has retired from the field and is looking to move into the sports-announcer side of the business.

He is married to Christy (Becki Newton) and is step-father to her two sons, Colin and Harry (not yet cast). He tries to respect Christy’s wish that he let her be the disciplinarian, but when he feels like she’s allowing the kids to get away with too much, he steps in with comic results — but manages to get through to the kids, too.

Case, Chris Spencer, Evan Silverberg, Daniel Rappaport and Malcolm D. Lee are executive producers.  Case wrote the pilot script, which Lee will direct.

Bellamy can next be seen starring in “Kindergarten Cop 2” and “The Bounce Back,” both due out later this year.

Bellamy is known for his appearances on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam,” and he most recently starred alongside Jon Lovitz, Tim Meadows and Vivica A. Fox in the syndicated sitcom “Mr. Box Office.” Additionally, Bellamy recurred on Tyler Perry‘s “Meet the Browns” on TBS and has guest starred on “Castle,” “White Collar” and “Royal Pains.”
